Abstract

Pitanje stvarnosti tisućama godina opterećuje filozofe i mislioce, a sve se čini kako čovjek danas nije ništa bliže odgovoru. Što je stvarnost i kako ju konstruiramo? S jedne strane, stvarnost je po nekima sve što nas okružuje, upravo onakvo kakvo se prezentira. S druge strane, i ono što ne vidimo, ono što nam je udaljeno može biti stvarno, a informacije o tome prenose nam mediji. Pojava masovnih medija „smanjila“ je svijet te stvarnost na drugom kraju planeta učinila i našom stvarnošću. No, informacije koje nam prenose mediji nerijetko su nepotpune. Osim toga, mediji zbog svojih brojnih ograničenja ne mogu prenijeti „baš sve“ što se događa u svijetu. Profesionalni kriteriji propisani literaturom omogućuju novinarima i urednicima da lakše odluče hoće li neka informacija postati viješću. Time se sveobuhvatni pojam stvarnosti sužava te primatelji medijskih poruka više ne dobivaju pravu sliku stvarnosti, već tek onu koja je medijski konstruirana. Rad se stoga bavi pitanjem stvarnosti i njezine spoznaje, kao i načinom na koji mediji sudjeluju u procesu konstruiranja slike svijeta.

Abstract (english)

The question of reality has been burdening philosophers and thinkers for thousands of years, and it seems as if man today is nowhere near the answer. What is reality and how do we construct it? On the one hand, for some, reality is everything that surrounds us, just as it is presented. On the other hand, what we do not see, what is distant to us can also be real, and the information about it is conveyed to us by the media. The appearance of the mass media has "reduced" the world and made reality on the other side of the planet our reality. However, the information conveyed to us by the media is often incomplete. In addition, because of its many limitations, the media cannot convey "just about" everything that is happening in the world. The professional criteria prescribed by the literature make it easier for journalists and editors to decide whether an information becomes news. In this way, the overarching notion of reality is narrowed down and the recipients of the media messages no longer get the true picture of reality, but only the one that is constructed in the media. The paper therefore addresses the issue of reality and its cognition, as well as how the media participate in the process of constructing an image of the world.
