Abstract

Stvaranje stereotipa ovisi o znanju, iskustvu, okruženju i socijalnim normama. Rodni stereotipi se odnose na povezivanje određenih osobina s pojedincima ili grupama isključivo na temelju njihova spola i roda. Opasnost rodnih stereotipa nalazi se u činjenici da su se razvijali u skladu s razvitkom društva, zbog čega su duboko ukorijenjeni u ljudsku podsvijest te su dio nesvjesnih, automatskih procesa. Iako rodni stereotipi imaju štetne posljedice na oba spola, tradicionalni patrijarhat je uzrokovao štetnije učinke za žene nego muškarce. Stereotipi o ženama najčešće se odnose na njihov izgled, submisivnost i podređen položaj u društvu s obzirom na muškarce. Razvoj masovnih medija značajno je utjecao na širenje stereotipa općenito, a samim time i stereotipa o ženama, ponajviše zbog svojeg globalnog dosega i velike brzine odašiljanja informacija. S obzirom na važnost medija i ubrzan razvoj tehnologije, mediji danas imaju veliki kredibilitet, a samim time i ogroman utjecaj na javno mnijenje. U svakom slučaju, činjenica da su mediji industrija koja se temelji na profitu otežava uklanjanje stereotipnih poruka iz medija s obzirom na to da stereotipi vrlo često povećavaju prodaju određenog proizvoda ili sadržaja. Unatoč tome, prošlo stoljeće donijelo je važne promjene u položaju žena u društvu, a te promjene moraju se i mogu nastaviti razvijati.

Abstract (english)

Stereotypes formulation depends on the person's knowledge, experience and social norms. Gender stereotypes refer to association of individuals or groups with particular traits based solely on their sex and gender. Gender stereotypes expanded gradually with growth and development of society and became important issue. They rooted in people’s subconscious and grew into automatic, unconscious processes. Although gender stereotypes have detrimental effects on both sexes, implementation of traditional patriarchy caused more harm to women than men. Stereotypes associated to women most often refer to their physical appearance, submissiveness and subordinate position in society. A development of the mass media has significant influence on the widening of all types of stereotypes, including stereotypes associated to women, mainly because of their global reach and high speed of information transmission. The importance of the media and rapid growth of modern technology granted them a great credibility and powerful impact on public opinion. However, the fact that media is a profit-based industry makes it challenging to remove stereotyped messages from the media, since stereotypes increase sales of products and contents. Nevertheless, the last century has brought great changes in the position of women in society, and those changes must and can continue to cultivate.
