Abstract

Moderne tehnologije su u suvremenom društvu integrirane u svaki aspekt ljudskog života. Posljedično, digitalna pismenost postaje preduvjet sudjelovanja u društvu. Mogućnosti koje moderne tehnologije pružaju mogu unaprijediti i olakšati svakodnevni život. Tako raste popularnost društvenih medija koji zbog svoje praktičnosti i dostupnosti privlače mnoštvo korisnika. Društveni mediji omogućuju komunikaciju s drugim korisnicima, informiranje o raznim događajima, pretraživanje sadržaja od interesa, praćenje vijesti te kreiranje i dijeljenje vlastitog sadržaja. Starije osobe su se s modernom tehnologijom susrele u kasnijim stadijima života pa često ostaju digitalno isključene. Ipak, raste broj digitalno aktivnih osoba kasne zrele dobi. Stoga je cilj ovog istraživanja utvrditi navike korištenja društvenih medija kod osoba kasne zrele dobi, odnosno utvrditi razloge nekorištenja društvenih medija. Rezultati dobiveni anketom provedenom na uzorku od 194 ispitanika starijih od 64 godine pokazali su kako stariji korisnici društvene medije u najvećoj mjeri koriste za komunikaciju s obitelji i prijateljima, praćenje vijesti te pretraživanje sadržaja. Društvenim medijima najčešće pristupaju putem mobitela te u korištenju provode nekoliko sati tjedno. Dubinskim intervjuiranjem sedmero osoba starijih od 70 godina, uočeno je kako su najčešći razlozi nekorištenja društvenih medija nezainteresiranost, uvjerenje da je osoba prestara, strah od nepoznatog, nepovjerenje prema internetu i nedostatak odgovarajućeg edukatora.

Abstract (english)

Modern technologies are integrated into every aspect of contemporary society. Consequently, digital literacy is becoming a prerequisite for participation in society. The possibilities that modern technologies offer can help in everyday life tasks. This has led to the growing popularity of social media, which attract numerous users due to their convenience and accessibility. Social media enables communication with other users, staying informed about various events, searching for content of interest, following news, and creating and sharing personal content. Older people encountered modern technology later in life, which often leaves them digitally excluded. However, there is an increasing number of elder social media users. Therefore, the aim of this research is to determine the usage habits of social media among the elderly and to identify the reasons for not using social media. The results obtained from a survey conducted on a sample of 194 participants over the age of 64 showed that older users primarily use social media for communicating with family and friends, following news, and searching for content. They mostly access social media via mobile phones and spend several hours per week using them. Through in-depth interviews with seven individuals over the age of 70, it was observed that the most common reasons for not using social media include disinterest, the person thinking that they are too old to learn, complexity, distrust of the internet, and the lack of suitable education.
