Abstract

U ovome diplomskom radu istražuje se kako su legitimni svjetski mediji prenosili
informacije o obitelji Kardashian i njihovoj reality seriji „Keeping Up With The Kardashians”. U
prvom dijelu rada prikazuje se razlika između tabloidnih i legitimnih medija s obzirom na to da se
u radu koriste samo mediji koji su legitimni. Legitimni mediji su oni mediji koji se pridržavaju
profesionalnih standarda novinarstva te izvještavaju o trivijalnim temama na pouzdan način.
Događaji, koje legitimni mediji prenose, dio su javnog interesa i diskurs. Legitimni mediji potom
publici nude analitički način izvještavanja. Nadalje, u radu se objašnjava i internet evolucija
celebrity kulture, odnosno kako je razvoj interneta pridonio razvoju i zanimanju za celebrity
kulturu. Osim navedenoga u radu se razmatra i pitanje reality televizije, njenih početaka i razvoja
sve do serije „Keeping Up With The Kardashians”.
Rad prikazuje tko čini obitelj Kardashian? Zašto je ova obitelj zastupljena u legitimnim
medijima? Kako legitimni mediji izvještavaju o obitelji Kardashian? U ovom se radu analiziraju
četiri događaja iz reality serije „Keeping Up With The Kardashians” koje su prenosili legitimni
mediji: „Forbes”, „Vanity Fair”, „Vogue”, „The New York Times”, „Harper’s Bazaar”, „Elle” i
„The Guardian”. Događaji su odabrani metodom istraživanja kvantitete medijske eksponiranosti,
ne samo u legitimnim medijima, već i na društvenim mrežama.

Abstract (english)

This thesis examines how respected and legitimate media have reported on the Kardashian
family and their reality show „Keeping Up With The Kardashians”. The difference between tabloid
and legitimate media sources is explained in the first part, as only legitimate media sources are
used in this study. They are considered legitimate because of their adherence to professional
journalistic standards. The stories and events they report are a part of public interest and public
discourse and they offer the audience an analytical way of reporting. This thesis, additionally,
explains the evolution of celebrity culture in regards to the internet evolution, meaning, how the
development of the internet has contributed to the interest of celebrity culture. It is also discussed,
on the example of the reality series „Keeping Up With The Kardashians”, the beginnings and the
development of reality television.
This thesis presents who the Kardashians are and why they are represented in legitimate
media, more importantly, how media outlets report on them. Four events from the reality show
„Keeping Up With The Kardashians” will be analyzed using online articles from „Forbes”, „Vanity
Fair”, „Vogue”, „The New York Times”, „Harper’s Bazaar”, „Elle” and „The Guardian”. The
events are selected through a method of researching the quantity of media exposure, not only in
media but also on social media platforms.
