Abstract

Kognitivna rezerva je noviji konstrukt u psihološkim istraživanjima, razvijen kao pokušaj objašnjavanja individualnih razlika u funkcioniranju uslijed jednakih neuralnih promjena potaknutih starenjem, demencijama ili drugim bolestima. Povećanju kognitivne rezerve doprinose sva kognitivno stimulirajuća iskustva čime ujedno omogućuju uspješnije suočavanje sa slabljenjem kognitivnih sposobnosti u starijoj dobi. Ovim istraživanjem se nastojalo provjeriti sukladnost nalaza o kognitivnoj rezervi s hipotezom o važnosti bavljenja kognitivno stimulirajućim aktivnostima tijekom života. U tu svrhu provedena je validacija prijevoda Upitnika kognitivne rezerve (CRIq) koji se sastoji od Indikatora obrazovanja, Indikatora zanimanja i Ljestvice slobodnih aktivnosti. U svrhu provjere konvergentne i diskriminativne valjanosti analizirane su povezanosti rezultata u CRIq i rezultata na Upitniku svakodnevnih aktivnosti (EAQ) te rezultata na dva subtesta kognitivnih sposobnosti iz Mserije (Test neuravnoteženih struktura i Test tumačenja poslovica). U istraživanju je sudjelovao 131 sudionik, u dobi od 61 do 89 godina, a rezultati su prikupljani metodom papirolovka. Analiza rezultata pokazala je kako 66% sudionika posjeduje srednje visoke razine kognitivne rezerve, pri čemu muškarci postižu više rezultate na indikatorima Obrazovanja i Zanimanja. Utvrđena je značajna negativna povezanost dobi kako s kognitivnom rezervom, tako i sa svakodnevnim aktivnostima i kognitivnim sposobnostima te su analizirane njihove parcijalne povezanosti. Rezultati na Upitniku kognitivne rezerve umjereno su povezani s rezultatima na Upitniku svakodnevnih aktivnosti te na Testu neuravnoteženih struktura, neovisno o dobi, što upućuje na zadovoljavajuću valjanost upitnika.

Abstract (english)

Cognitive reserve is a relatively new construct, proposed in an attempt to explain differences in functioning of individuals with similar neural changes related to normal ageing, dementia or other illnesses. Throughout our lives cognitively stimulating activities contribute to the development of cognitive reserve and enable more successful coping with age-related decrease in cognitive abilities. This research sought out to verify the assumption of cognitive reserve being related to cognitively stimulating activities. Therefore, we validated a Croatian version of the Cognitive Reserve Index questionnaire (CRIq), and its subscales: Education Indicator, Occupation Indicator and Scale of Everyday Activities. As a convergent and discriminant validity test, we examined the relationship of CRIq and the results of Everyday Activities Questionnaire (EAQ) and two subtests from M-series (Unbalanced Structures Test and Proverb Interpretation Test). A sample of 131 participants (aged 61 to 89) participated in this study. Analysis of their results showed that 66% of participants had moderately high levels of cognitive reserve, with men achieving higher results on indicators of Education and Occupation. Significant negative correlations were found between age, cognitive reserve, everyday activities and cognitive abilities, so all the correlations were partialized. The CRIq results are moderately related to the results of EAQ and Unbalanced Structures Test, regardless of age, indicating the satisfactory validity of the questionnaire.
