Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Violence became a constituent part of numerous media content and due to that, as well as the large amount of time that media users spend in using the media, numerous studies attempted to point out the negative effects that can be caused by violent scenes. Even though the responsibility can not be placed solely on the media because of the many other factors that effect emotions, cognition and behavior, almost all research has shown that a connection exists. The series of books and movies about Harry Potter achieved a great commercial success and became a part of the popular culture of the 21st century. They belong to the genre of fantasy, insufficiently discussed in the context of violence owing to the unrealistic subjects they explore. The research presented in this paper draws attention to the large amount of violent imagery in this genre and aims to raise awareness about the problem of more explicit violent depictions in the movies in comparison to the books. The series require a certain maturity from readers, as well as viewers and Croatian movie theatres do not label the movies according to the age of the audience and there is no place where one can check the label assigned to the movie. Conducted study found a total od 223 violent depictions in the first and last sequences of the series, of which larger amounts of violent scenes were found in both movie sequences.
