Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
The paper explores the possibility of verifying the theory of agenda setting theory using reader comments on the Croatian daily news portals as quantitative indicator of citizens' opinions about the importance of certain topic. An analysis conducted as part of the work has focused on the theme of the manifestation "Split Pride" (procession in support of the LGBT community) in the city of Split during four consecutive years. The importance of this topic on the media agenda was quantified by the number of news items related to the topic published in four web portals: portal Slobodna Dalmacija (http: ///www.slobodnadalmacija.hr), portal 24sata (http://www.24sata.hr ), portal Index (http://www.index.hr) and portal Vecernji list (http://www.vecernji.hr). Portals were selected according to the criteria of attendance - portal Slobodna Dalmacija is the most widely read local-regional portal in Split where the event "Split Pride" is held, while the other three portals most widely read national daily news portals where possible Reading commenting on articles. The importance of the topic on public agenda was quantified by the number of distinct readers who have commented on some of the articles on the subject and the number of comments that they left. The analysis indicates that the comments readers can truly be seen as free, easily accessible and very date indicator of the importance of the topic.
